NORTHWEST REGIONAL ASSEMBLY IN COLLABO WITH THE COMMUNICATION FAMILY FOR DEVELOPMENT.

Media practitioners in the North West have met with the executive of the Northwest Regional Assembly to discuss issues patterning to the development of the region. The meeting which held at the Northwest Regional Assembly, also had as motive to ensure that media practitioners and the regional assembly start the year with the spirit to serve the community. Having six sectors in the region that represent the population, the regional assembly coined the mantra “not for self but for all for the people, by and with the people”

According to the President, Dr Angwafor Fru, it is necessary having this meeting with those who
“manage the circulation of information in the region and have the power to change attitudes as well as figure out their role in helping the population.”

With the concerns of the journalists based mainly on communication, the regional assembly through its President, says “It is important that we start the year with people whom we think are key in working with the regional assembly to send the right information, create the right attitude and get our population working towards the betterment of our lives.”  This he added, will greatly improve on the communication and the image of the institution.

When asked about the Vice President of the regional assembly who doubles as the President of the North West house of chiefs and the Fon of Bambalang who has been in captivity for over a month, the president mentioned that everything is being done to ensure his release.
We have been meeting with administrative and security services to make that we get the release of our vice president. As far as we know, the state services are doing what they can to have his release.”  He mentioned.

The regional assembly is a new born baby that has as vision and mission, working for the community with the community for the return of peace by creating an environment of harmony, re-establishing traditional, moral, spiritual and administrative authorities that have been lost in recent years.

North West media practitioners were also called upon to help the North West Region regain its dignity and foster the uniqueness of the region in the face of the ongoing socio- political crisis.

It is worth noting that the institution had deliberated, adopted, voted and approved the creation of the Northwest Investment and Development Fund, (NOWIDEF). Governance has preoccupied the Regional Council with Regional Executive Council members and Regional Assembly members trained on the Programme budget, public contract procedures, women in development and gender inclusiveness. The health care of members and the community has been a concern especially as covid-19 is still around. The institution to counter the spread of Covid-19, had organized vaccination campaigns.

The President of the Executive Council, Prof Angwafor Fru used the gathering with media practitioners to inform them that investment ideas have been topical in their activities. It is against this backup that, a declaration of land for public utility is being followed up alongside, studies, architecture/ structural designs for the headquarters of the Regional Assembly. It is on record at the Regional Executive council that feasibility studies have been launched for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of some destroyed schools, health facilities and road infrastructure. They have had stakeholder consultations with construction and public works entrepreneurs of North West extraction, basic, secondary education and vocational training Actors. The Northwest Regional Assembly is indeed a development machinery, ready to propel the region into the future.
