Bihndumlem Humanitarian Association of Peace and Hope (BIHAPH) recently joined other Humanitarians and Civil society Organizations to launch the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence with the theme: UNITE! BAMENDA: MEN AND WOMEN COACHED ON COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES TOWARDS ENDING GBV

Effective communication has over the years had an impact on the growth and development of humans and societies at large. In this effect, the Center for human rights and Democracy in Africa held an evaluation and monitoring workshop on 25th November 2021 to educate actors against Gender Based violence on how they can effectively communicate the Start, Awareness Support Action SASA methodology in their communities to impact change. The capacity building workshop which took place at the CBC Hall Mile 3 Nkwen Bamenda, had Ndum Chalotte, a girls' right activist and a representative of CESCOMPSUP's Coordinator Madam Rosaline Obah as one of the facilitators.   Initiated by a German-based NGO WASH United in 2014, World Menstrual Hygiene Day (WMHD) is an annual awareness day to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management. Observed on May 28, the commemoration seeks to acknowledge that 28 days is the average length of the menstrual cycle. World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021, aims to create awareness and change negative perceptions around menstrual hygiene. Menstruation, period or monthly, is the periodic discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina.    This year’s theme, “Action and Investment in Menstrual Hygiene and Health”, is clarion call for tax free pads or free provision of pads like the case of Condoms. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a pervasive and global violation of human rights where this crime is often hidden because of the disgrace, dishonour, and shame perpetrated upon the victim. Women remain silent and decide not to report this crime because the perpetrator is often their domestic partner. Many women and girls who are raped are forced to leave home, because of the perceived shame for their families. Displaced, without support networks and with no access to protection or livelihoods, many are forced into prostitution.
