GCE BOARD: THE LONG WALK TO QUALITY EDUCATION

The Cameroon GCE board was officially created in 1993, according to a book titled " The Cameroon GCE Crisis: A Test of Anglophone Solidarity." The book says the creation of the board was spearheaded by Anglophone community groups, such as the Teachers' Association of Cameroon (TAC), led by Mr. Peter Chateh; churches; Confederation of Anglophone Parents’ Teachers’ Association of Cameroon (CAPTAC), with other trade union groups also playing a pivotal role in the creation of the board. It took 10 years, from 1983 to October 1993 for a consensus to be reached by the aforementioned groups and the Government of Cameroon to create an examination board to award certificates to Anglophone Cameroonian students. Following the creation of the Board, the Ministry of National Education set up an Ad Hoc Committee to write the text of application to the 1 July 1993 decree. 2020/2021 SCHOOL YEAR; ALL READY TO FIGHT COVID-19 WHILE LEARNING.

The third term of the academic year 2020/2021, started last April 12, 2021 with many school administrations, taking firm resolutions and determination to complete the syllabus for the academic year while respecting barrier measures against COVID-19. In many schools across Menchum Division, focus this term is ensuring that the students and pupils cover over 90% of their coursework especially as the academic year began late due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the Government Practising Nursery School Wum, the Headmistress explained that her pupils will have an extra hour for catch-up classes. This is same for students in almost all secondary schools within the division, who already had extra classes during the Easter holidays. UB: CONVOCATION POSTPONED TO DECEMBER 13.

          University of Buea /  Archives The 2019 graduation ceremony of the University of Buea ,UB, will take place on Friday, December 13 and not Saturday, December 14, 2019 as had been previously announced. The change of date is in a bid to avoid a clash with the funeral of the late Mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick Esunge scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2019. Prof. Ernest Molua, Registrar of the University of Buea had on November 29, 2019 announced that the 2019 Convocation will take place on December 14, 2019 in the Herbert Nganjo Endeley Open-Air Amphitheatre as from 9:00 a.m. At the time, the funeral programme for late Mayor Ekema, who died on October 27, 2019, had not been fixed. With the burial approved for December 14, 2019by the Presidency of the Republic, the University of Buea had to bow to superior authority. UNIVERSITY OF BAMENDA DECLARED A NO GO AREA.

By Stephen Ojang.  The prefectoral order No. 453/PO/E. 29/ALPAS and dated November 21 2019, bearing on delimiting security perimeters around the vicinity of the Bamenda university campus, Bambili in Tubah Subdivision, Mezam Division,  did not surprise anyone. This for the simple reason that, there have been repeated kidnappings and growing insecurity, within the university area, and Tubah Subdivision as a whole.  The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam Division, Simon Emile Moon, through the above mentioned Prefectoral Order, has thus declared the university of  Bamenda university UBa and its environs, a no go area for both bikes and business persons. The Prefectoral order further calls on those doing businesses around to properly identify themselves or face the long arm of the law.
