Divisional Delegation of Communication Menchum, OJ SLIM MEDIA Join Forces to Combat Hate Speech among Pupils and Students.

The divisional delegation of Communication Menchum, in collaboration with OJ SLIM MEDIA, celebrated the 2025 World Radio Day with a strong emphasis on promoting journalism void of hate speech among pupils and students in Menchum Division.


The event, which took place on February 13 2025, brought together students, teachers, and media professionals to discuss the importance of responsible journalism and the role of young people in promoting peace and tolerance through media. This year's world radio day was placed under the theme Radio and Climate change.



In his keynote address, the Divisional Delegate of Communication, Buo Ephraim Amuh, stressed the need for young journalists to adhere to ethical standards and avoid hate speech in their reporting, and to also raise awareness on climate change. "As future leaders and media professionals, it is essential that you understand the power of words and the impact they can have on individuals and communities. You should be able to know that through your words on climate change, something can be done so as to make our world a better place" he said.


The celebration also featured news presentation from Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools within Menchum Division. The executive director of OJ SLIM MEDIA, Stephen Ojang and Mme Nsen Eunice, Chief of Bureau General Affairs at the Divisional delegation of Communication Menchum, shared their experiences and insights on promoting responsible journalism among young people. Both presenters emphasized the importance of media literacy, critical thinking, and fact-based reporting in combating hate speech and promoting peace.


OJ SLIM MEDIA, a local media outlet, contributed to the celebration by providing insights on hate speech for students and also some basic journalism skills and responsible reporting practices.

The event was attended by over 3,000 students, teachers, and media professionals from across Menchum Division. The celebration was marked by a series of activities, including a radio broadcast, a composition competition, ballet dance, traditional dances and news presentation..

The 2025 World Radio Day celebration in Menchum Division served as a powerful reminder of the importance of promoting responsible journalism and combating hate speech among young people. By empowering the next generation of journalists and media professionals, we can build a more peaceful and tolerant society.

Breaking the Cycle: Confronting Gender-Based Violence and Drug Abuse in Bamenda

In a bid to tackle the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and drug abuse, the "Adjust for Me" project, implemented by Common Action for Gender Development (COMAGEND), has been making strides in the Ntarikon 2 community, Bamenda. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists

This statement was  made by Fonyuy Kiven Frankline, the information officer at the United Nations for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, on December 27 2019 at Ntamulung church center hall as he trained peace journalists in Bamenda on humanitarian reporting and Security/safety of journalists.
