NORTH WEST PUBLIC INDEPENDENT CONCILIATOR

The PIC while addressing local masses in Wum Council area, Mr. Tamfu Fai, appealed to the government to create divisional representations.   In the Anglo-Saxon tradition, it is customary to set up independent authorities responsible for settling disputes between users and regional and council administration. In line with this logic, Law No.2019/24 of 24 December 2019 to institute the General Code of Regional and Local Authorities provides for an independent authority called the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) in the North-West and South-West Regions. The office holder is by no means a legal authority or a judge, as the competences and powers entrusted to him are not of a legal nature. The PIC is responsible, inter alia, for amicably settling disputes between users and the regional and council administration, defending and protecting rights and freedoms with regard to the relationship between citizens and the region or the councils thereof, conducting any investigation on the f...

POLITICS: SDF CELEBRATES 33rd ANNIVERSARY

The Social Democratic Front, SDF clocked thirty three years on Friday, May 26 but the celebrations were far from what used to obtain in previous years. For such a milestone, party authorities decided to keep the celebrations low key first of all due to the ongoing anglophone crisis and the internal squabbles which have forced party hierarchy to resort to low key celebration. The party has been laying low for some times until May 20, when they proved to Menchum population that they are sleeping dogs. Celebrations have been timid in Menchum Division. However, other party bigwigs on their part such as Senator Emeritus Buh Sule Tegha, decided to use the day as a moment of reflection on the road covered so far in the fight for democracy in Cameroon. After 33 years, the party’s influence has dwindled and they have lost influence in parliament, in the Senate and even in some Councils, and unable to even hald a dozen seats. The Wum Electoral District Secretary, Ategha Simon Enah, blame the si...

Brutal killing of Journalist Anye Nsoh: Living and dying by the microphone.

It was one fateful October month of 1989, while a High School student at St. Bede's College, Ashing-Kom, and hype-manning during 'Socials' (for the 'listening and dancing pleasure' of the whole student body), that news reached me of the death of my lovely father, Jude Thaddeus Fulai Biyong. Immediately, I had to stop everything else that evening, and arranged for exit papers to be off to Fundong, and then, Muteff, for the burial ceremony the very next day. As it was (and is) the tradition in Komland, a vivid symbol of having successfully buried one's parent was the firing of guns after interment.  Knowing just too well that even at that age I had never held (talk less of firing) a gun, my uncles carefully arranged to load the dane gun, fasten it to a coffee tree stem, before encouraging me to pull the trigger into the air. Even then, it still took me more than five minutes to muster courage and turn my face away, before reluctantly pulling out on the trigger. E...

FEAST OF RAMADAN: THE CALL FOR PEACE AND SOCIAL COHESION IN WUM.

Muslim faithful in Wum have ended fasting with a call for peace and social cohesion so as to foster development in Wum and Menchum.  The call came after praying for peace and development and  for normalcy to return to Wum, Menchum Division and to the North West and south West Regions in particular, and the entire nation as whole. The Ramadan prayer was led by Sheikh Adamu Isiaku, Imam of the Wum Central Mosque. Speaking shortly after the prayer, the Senior Divisional Officer for Menchum Division, Abdoullahi Aliou, told OJ SLIM MEDIA that during this period of festivities, Muslim faithful are challenged to reflect on the plight of their brothers and sisters whose lives have been wrecked by oppression and violence.  I hope that the loss and destruction of lives and livelihoods end immediately, and peace, compassion, mutual respect, and empathy are restored all over the Wum subdivision and Menchum Division at large.  He said  The feast of Ramadan is also an o...

BAMENDA: ROAD ACCIDENT LEAVES TWO PEOPLE DEAD.

Relative calm has returned to the chief town of Bamenda after traffic was halted for about as security forces engaged in a fight with bike riders. According to eyewitness reports, they were scrambling over the corpse of a bike rider who was killed alongside a woman by an over speeding police vehicle at Fishpond hill on Wednesday April 12. After the accident, colleagues of the biker chose to parade the corpse through the streets demanding for justice. In an attempt to calm the situation and seize the corpse from colleagues of the deceased bike rider, physical violence erupted at Veterinary junction our source intimated. Movement was halted, as business persons around the junction fled for safety. Sources say the bikers intended to get to the Governor's office with the corpse but this mission proved impossible. At press time, we had not gotten the identity of the deceased persons whose remains have been deposited at a morgue. Photo credit: 1. unknown 2. Civiclens.info
