Ntarinkon Cooperative Credit Union Limited (NtaCCUL) has taken another step in its digital transformation drive with the launch of its GIMAC Card, a regional payment solution aimed at improving financial access for its growing membership base.
The card was unveiled on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the institution’s Mile 17 Buea branch during a ceremony attended by government officials, traditional authorities, financial sector stakeholders, and members of the credit union.
The event, presided over by the Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, also featured the presentation of National Labour Medals to outstanding NtaCCUL employees in recognition of their commitment and service.
Speaking during the ceremony, NtaCCUL Board President Barrister Akumah Miranda Bih described the launch as a major milestone in the institution’s evolution from a small community-based initiative into one of Cameroon’s leading cooperative financial institutions.
Founded in 1972 with a handful of members, NtaCCUL has grown to serve more than 120,000 members, with a savings portfolio exceeding FCFA 66 billion and annual loan disbursements of over FCFA 52 billion.
The credit union currently operates 18 interconnected branches across seven regions of Cameroon, providing financial services to individuals, businesses, farmers, and community groups.
Governor Okalia Bilai praised NtaCCUL’s commitment to innovation and staff development, noting that a motivated workforce remains essential to the success of any institution.
He also highlighted the role of financial institutions in supporting economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction, describing NtaCCUL as an example of a cooperative organization contributing to local development.
The newly introduced GIMAC Card allows NtaCCUL members to carry out electronic transactions across the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) region. The card enables users to withdraw money, make payments, and access financial services through the GIMAC network.
Barrister Miranda Bih said the initiative builds on NtaCCUL’s earlier digital investments, including its Visa card services, mobile banking application, and USSD platform introduced as part of efforts to expand access to financial services.
She added that the institution continues to maintain a 6% interest rate on members’ savings while prioritizing support for small businesses, farmers, women entrepreneurs, and other community-driven economic activities.
NtaCCUL General Manager Divine Ade Muma said the GIMAC Card was introduced to reduce dependence on physical banking services and provide members with faster, safer, and more convenient transactions.
He assured customers that the card operates on secure systems designed to protect members’ accounts against unauthorized access.
According to Ade Muma, the institution is also exploring possibilities of extending the card’s usability beyond Africa as part of its long-term vision for greater financial inclusion.
With the launch of the GIMAC Card, NtaCCUL says it is strengthening its position as a key player in Cameroon’s cooperative banking sector while adapting to the growing demand for digital financial services.
