WUM COUNCIL HOLIDAY JOBS: SUCCESS AGAINST ALL ODDS.

“The youths within Wum municipality have shown their servitude and thus deserve our gratitude for helping us keep our town and public places clean for the past three months. This is a sign of their civic responsibility towards community development.”  said Mr. Dighambong Anthony Mvo, Mayor of Wum Council, during the closing ceremony of the 2020 Wum Council Holiday jobs that took place at the Wum Town hall under the auspices of the Senior Divisional Officer for Menchum, Mr. Abdoullahi Aliou on Friday September 30, 2020. Despite challenges inflicted by the ongoing Anglophone crisis and the stiffened economic conditions in the two Anglophone regions of Cameroon, the traditional Wum Council Holiday jobs held this year 2020. Wum council it should be noted, stands tall in the Division as the only council that has never stopped empowering the youths in a bit to curb the high rate of unemployment rocking the municipality.  The challenge faced in this youth empowerment drive has been the sociop...

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY 2020: DIRE NEED TO SHAPE PEACE TOGETHER.

Today, the 21st of September, we celebrate the International Day of Peace. This day was created by the UN in 1981, when the organisation devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged all of mankind to work in cooperation for peace. This year’s commemoration is focused on “Shaping Peace Together.” In a world in which war is waged and where there seem to be fewer and fewer islands of security and stability, we not only need decisive action from the international community but also prudent and co-ordinated approaches. For peace will not be achieved with weapons, but with prudent policymaking – policymaking that reaches far beyond the diplomatic negotiating table and is willing to invest in a “peace dividend” for the people in crisis regions. Peace is not only the absence of war, peace is a concept that affects all parts of society. It is something that we cannot discuss only in times of conflict but something we need to build every day. By acting early through dialogue and mediation we...

POETRY CORNER: SPEAK, ZEKEGHEM SPEAK!

By Fu-uh Edwin Fang* SPEAK, ZEKEGHEM SPEAK! The streets are empty with homes, farms and market squares devoid of live, love and celebration! Walls fallen down beaten by the heavy rains of artillery washed into the blood and flesh of loud screams of those gone ...even Esu screams louder! Speak, Zekeghem,Speak! Farmlands overgrown and the silent chills of the night can no longer hear the call of Nlom Nnam! Speak, Zekeghem, speak! Our ears have been left resounding with clatters and heavy thuds of guns upon our shambas, breaking through the silence of the day, the night, an our unpeaceful sleep! Speak, Zekeghem, speak! While our young men have all fled away leaving our homes empty. Leaving our farm lands overgrown. While the ghost in uniform continue to resound his heavy weapons even upon the ears of defenseless mothers. Speak, Zekeghem, speak! Never was it ever heard of that women now bury men, as young men flee into the constipating bowels of the night! Women sit to watch their innocent...

COVID-19: WUM HEALTH DISTRICT STARTS MASS SCREENING CAMPAIGN.

The Wum District Health Service has a long history of strengthening public health capacity throughout the Health Areas to contain outbreaks at their source and minimize their impact. This is perhaps the reason why a mass screening campaign to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic was recently organized in the 19 health facilities of the 17 health areas. The campaign had as aim to curb the spread of the virus as COVID-19 cases now rise to 16, including 2 deaths, 8 recoveries and 6 active cases. The Wum District Health Services is located in Menchum Division of the North-West Region of Cameroon. WUM MUNICIPALITY: A TOURIST DESTINATION.

WELCOME TO WUM... …I have walked my way across Wum municipality through writings.  And Atue,  And Menteng. ...I have worked from palm-fronded bushes, owe inspiring lakes, unending mountain tops and tropical rain forests. I swam with a lot of enthusiasm off the coast of River Menchum in Bangwe, got lost in the Kom-Bu forest reserve, fetched my own water and built my own cooking fire at the heart of Itiaku. I have been privileged to see the world at my pace, combining my love of exploring, with my passion of writing. Now don’t get me wrong – it was a bit like roses: beautiful, but with a few thorns along the way. It’s not easy to get to all these places: it takes hard work, a reasonable command of your legs, and a helping hand from those who have done this before you. Located between the hills and valleys, Wum municipality has a great climate. The country side around Ngouh is dotted with farm plantations and is ideal for hiking. The local inhabitants rely on farming for their livelihood ...

WUM COUNCIL'S FUTURISTIC PROJECT.

The idea of such a lofty project is based on a vision for the development of this municipality and making it a practical and aesthetic entity. The Town’s vision for the new Municipal Center and site is to create a “Gateway” to the Town of Wum. The facility will feature a high-quality entrance commensurate with other giant structures such as the Aghem Credit union at three corners and the business structure at courtyard. The facility will house the Town’s current departments and allow for growth, expecting to provide space to accommodate up to 50 employees. It will include Council Chambers, a hall for executive meetings and customer service areas for the public. The total Municipal Center project, inclusive of architectural design, construction, site development, and landscaping, is projected to cost some hundreds of millions. Designed by POLARIS DESIGN , their proposal for the future town hall of Wum draws a discreet profile in the landscape, that will stand out as a landmark in the m...

DISABILITY IS NOT INABILITY.

Persons With Disabilities within Wum town, have challenged inhabitants of the locality as they came out massively to keep the surroundings of the Divisional Delegation of Social Affairs Menchum, clean. The exercise was appreciated by many as they learned the lesson of contributing to nation building no matter the disability we have. Persons with disabilities in Wum, led by their president, Mr. Elvis Kambele, have used this opportunity to call on city dwellers to consider them in whatever they do. To him, the clean up campaign exercise has given them a fresh impetus as far as their plan of action is concerned. It should be noted here that in life, people are born in different ways. Some are healthy while others came unhealty, which may be caused by different factors and can lead to the person's disability. Being disabled in life does not mean you are unable to do something to achieve your own desired objectives, dreams and goals in life, instead it is just a matter of accepting and ...

WUM COUNCIL: SDO VISITS HOLIDAY WORKERS.

For the past two months, the Wum Municipality has been a bee hive as many youths on holidays have been engaged by the Wum Council, to dig, clean and decorate the municipality with ornamental trees and flowers, this to the satisfaction of the population who always come out in their numbers to encourage these children.  The recruitment of these children, though a corporate social responsibility of the Wum Council, has been made possible thanks to the workaholic Mayor and his team. In one of such busy day of work, the Senior Divisional Officer of Menchum Division, Mr. Abdoullahi Aliou, paid a surprised visit to the children and encouraged them in their endeavour. You have been the lucky few to have been chosen to work and earn some money to help your parents send you back to school. Make sure that dream comes true. Do not in anyway disappoint the Council and the entire population who trusted you to have this job. Be good citizens and true patriots. Thank you for assisting the council ...

WUM COUNCIL: ROCKING THE TIDE IN DIFFICULT TIMES.

Since its re-election in February this year, the present council executive has dedicated this mandate to concrete actions in the domain of development for the betterment of the livelihood of the people. It is evident that efforts are being made so as to alleviate poverty, empower the people, so as to make life worth living. Far from being an observer, the Landlord of the Municipality, Councillor Dighambong Anthony Mvo, recently visited all ongoing constructions and rehabilitation works within the municipality. From roads, classrooms, agric post, slaughter house, general rehabilitation and the construction of a mini fence at the women empowerment center, the Mayor left no stone unturned as he made sure that development within the WUM Council area moves smoothly. The recent outing by the Wum Council Boss is a move to foster peace as it rings the clarion call to sons and daughters of the Municipality to start thinking of returning home and contribute to the development of their Municipali...
