MEJU ELECTS NEW EXCO AT MAIDEN AGM.


Menchum Journalists' Union, MEJU, now has a new EXCO. Led by CHAM Victor Bama, publisher of Municipal update newspaper, the seven man EXCO has as daunting task, to  Promote effective Communication at grassroots level in order to enhance peace, justice and development.
 
The young fine brain publisher of Municipal Updates, one of Cameroon's leading English newspaper, was voted by his peers as President, during the Union's maiden Annual General Meeting that held in Yaounde on Friday November 19, 2021. CHAM Victor christened his mandate as a"New Era of peace". According to him, it is time to build peace and this can only be done if all hands are put on deck so that together, we will be able to contribute in our own little way to Peace building and social cohesion in different parts of Menchum, which will spread to other parts of the Northwest region, that are hard hit by the ongoing conflict.
 

"For me, the most important vision now is peace, we have to work together and build peace within the communities of Menchum and beyond using our voices and all available instruments." dixit CHAM Victor.

Created in 201, MEJU had as  aim to rally together, Journalists from Menchum Division, North West Region of Cameroon. The newly elected President has as mission to  transform mindsets through effective rural communication. To him, the population needs accurate information from journalists who we are.

The new MEJU President hails from Weh in Fungom Subdivision of Menchum Division.

Traditional Leaders Urge Government to Address Drug Abuse in Ntarikon 2 Community

On November 20, 2024, community spokespeople from the Adjust for Me project engaged religious and traditional leaders in an open discussion during a door-to-door sensitization campaign in Ntarikon 2. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the growing concerns of drug abuse and gender-based violence (GBV) within the community. Through this dialogue, the project sought to educate both youths and religious leaders on the dangers of substance abuse and to address how gender-based violence can be reduced in both the church and local communities. Many religious leaders expressed that while some progress has been made, the increasing prevalence of drug abuse among young people remains a pressing concern. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists

This statement was  made by Fonyuy Kiven Frankline, the information officer at the United Nations for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, on December 27 2019 at Ntamulung church center hall as he trained peace journalists in Bamenda on humanitarian reporting and Security/safety of journalists. Organized by the Cameroon community media Network CCMN Northwest chapter, mr Funyuy Kiven trained the journalists present,  on the importance of always taking into consideration, your safety and security, before embarking on any mission.
