North-West Region: Youths poised to advocate AIDS-free holidays


Some young peer educators from across the North-West Region of Cameroon, will soon begin sensitization campaigns on how to make a healthy and responsible holiday without AIDS.

Acting under the canopy of the 20th edition of a campaign aimed at reducing the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS amongst youths dubbed AIDS-Free Holidays, they will embark on a three-week awareness campaign with the aim to reduce the risk of STIs and HIV infection amongst school, university and unemployed youths.

Before the launching of this year’s edition build for Friday August 5th 2022 in the North-West Region, the North-West Regional Technical Group for the Fight against HIV/AIDS has schooled the HIV/AIDS Focal Persons of some councils across the region on the importance of the campaign.

According to Dr. Gladys Tayong, in a ZOOM meeting this morning, the 20th edition of "AIDS Free Holidays"
2022 that will be launched on the 5th of August 2022 in Cameroon and in the North West Region, will be done in strict compliance with Government’s measures to stop the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason therefore, virtual communication coupled with group and interpersonal communication will be used.  She further enjoined all stakeholders to sensitize their communities and especially the youths on the dangers of Drug use/Abuse and its negative effects on health, including the increased risk of HIV infection and death.

Observed this year under the theme “Drugs kill and place us at risk of HIV/AIDS”, the campaign this year aims at raising awareness of youths on the increased risk of HIV infection, AIDs and STIs among Drug Users/Addicts.

Breaking the Cycle: Confronting Gender-Based Violence and Drug Abuse in Bamenda

In a bid to tackle the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and drug abuse, the "Adjust for Me" project, implemented by Common Action for Gender Development (COMAGEND), has been making strides in the Ntarikon 2 community, Bamenda. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists
