Militants, sympathisers and lovers of peace in Menchum I Section of the CPDM party, rallied at the Wum Town Hall on November 6th 2020, not to celebrate as usual, the coming to power of Mr. Biya, but to pray for the peaceful repose of the kids that were slained in Kumba as they struggled to go to school, as well as the CPDM militants and other Cameroonians who have died as a result of natural disaster, fighting in the Far North region and those killed in the anglophone crisis. Over 500 Students of the Department of Journalism and Mass communication of the University of Buea, have been educated on; "The place of peace Journalism in crisis situation" . This was during a guest talk that was presented by, Mrs. Rosaline Akah Obah; National Coordinator, for the Cameroon Community Media Network. The seasoned journalist challenged the student journalists to choose appropriate words and images that set out to build and not to destroy. She equally encouraged the students to be balanced in their reporting, in order not to injure another party. This commencement talk was moderated by Kingsley L. Ngange, HOD JMC UB, who enlivened the students, especially the freshmen, to put into practice, every single bit of this presentation and it will go a long way to better their career. About 8000 people in Wum, capital of Menchum Division of the North West Region have benefitted some hygienic packages (facemasks, soaps and hand wash buckets), from the Rural Doctors, in order to protect themselves from the deadly Covid19. The event that ran from the 21 of September to the 26 of October, 2020, took the health team to over 10 localities in Wum - Zhoa, Weh, Bu, Upkwa, Zongofe, kesu, Mbu-uh, Ndzendzam and Ko-oh. Headed by Tebe Rogeson, Rural Doctors NW Regional Coordinator, held discussions with community representatives as well as trained community health workers on the Covid19 preventive measures and how to sensitized the population. Priority was given to home visits so as to have face to face exchanges this feedback. Schools were not left out as students were educated on the importance of proper hand washing and wearing of face masks. Many voices have risen to the sky to decry the horrendous killings of school children last October 24th at the Mother Francisca Bilingual Academy, in Kumba, Meme Division of the South West Region of Cameroon. Over 16 participants including stakeholders from Cameroon Community Media Network (CCMN), Grace Vision (GV), and Grace Chin Foundation (GCF), attended a two-day capacity building workshop in Bamenda, organized by the Society for the Promotion of Initiatives in Sustainable Development and Welfare (SOPISDEW) Cameroon. The workshop which took place on the 16th and 17th of Octobers 2020 was held to better equip SOPISDEW’s team and implementing partners with skills and competencies for the implementation of a project titled Enhancing Community Communication for Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (ECC-PSEA). The member of Parliament of Menchum North Constituency, Hon. Kim John Nji, was in his constituency to encourage Parents to send back their children to school. This tour took him to Zhoa, Weh and Bafmeng where he donated didactic materials to over 500 students who are already attending classes since Monday 5th October 2020. Worthy to note is the fact that at GHS Zhoa, the Member of Parliament took an engagement to pay the registration fees of form one students who braved all the odds last year and attended school and passed the common entrance into secondary school. It is also important to note that, the Member of Parliament paid registration fees for all these pupils for common entrance examinations and First School Leaving Certificate, 2020 session. By Rosaline Obah Some 16 Participants from 13 Councils in the North West Region have fine tuned their skills in conflict prevention/ transformation, crisis management, humanitarian assistance, trauma healing and rehabilitation as a move to continue in the mission of shaping peace together in the region. The three day workshop was organized by the Bihndumlem Humanitarian Association of Peace and Hope (BIHAPH) with motivation to uphold community peace building at the Grassroots with a growing need for peace to return to the various communities. The need to involve everybody at community level to contribute their quota in rebuilding communities, shattered by wars and the on-going socio-political crisis also pushed BIHAPH to take the risk and necessary measures to mobilize these community leaders.
