BOMB EXPLOSION IN BAMENDA LEAVES 1 DEAD AND 8 OTHERS INJURED.

One person killed and 8 others wounded in a bomb blast in Bamenda today.

The incident occurred while the governor of the Northwest region was delivering his speech at the Bamenda grandstand to commemorate this years edition of the international women's day celebrated on the 8th of march every year.

It is alleged that the device was placed at the grandstand earlier and later activated by unknown individuals.

Victims of the incident include 5 soldiers, 2 police men and 1 civilian. Also,some material losses were recorded as some shops along the commercial avenue were set ablaze.

The perpetrators of this act are still unknown and It should equally be noted that ,pro-independent fighters in the Northwest region called for a lockdown today as a means of stopping the women's day celebration in the region. Despite this call, women celebrated their date in steadfastness. The explosion did not stop the celebration.

On November 20, 2024, community spokespeople from the Adjust for Me project engaged religious and traditional leaders in an open discussion during a door-to-door sensitization campaign in Ntarikon 2. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the growing concerns of drug abuse and gender-based violence (GBV) within the community. Through this dialogue, the project sought to educate both youths and religious leaders on the dangers of substance abuse and to address how gender-based violence can be reduced in both the church and local communities. Many religious leaders expressed that while some progress has been made, the increasing prevalence of drug abuse among young people remains a pressing concern.
