SECOND WAVE OF COVID-19; WUM COUNCIL GETS READY.

With the North-West Region now experiencing the second wave of COVID-19, the Municipal Magistrate of Wum Council, Mr. Dighambong Anthony Mvo, has called on residents of his municipality, to make sure they are doing all they can to slow the rate of infection, and to protect each other, by systematically putting on their face masks, washing their hands regularly with soap and runny water, and by respecting social distancing at all time.

He made this call, while chairing a mass distribution of face masks to inhabitants of his municipality. In total, over 5,000 face masks have been distributed by the Wum Council, mostly to young people. The Mayor also reassured Wum denizens that efforts are being made to step up the fight against this deadly pandemic. He reminded them that the global pandemic is not yet over. As such, preventive measures like social distancing, washing of hands, sanitizing of hands and appropriate wearing of face mask.

Mayor Dighambong Anthony Mvo said: "The situation in our Country and our region is now more serious than it has ever been and we all need to play our part to stop the spread of infection and protect ourselves.
We are dealing with a new strain of the virus which is over 70% more infectious than the original coronavirus. In our Division, it has caused a massive increase in the number of people infected, and unless we all take action it will continue to spread.
I am again calling on all residents to do more to slow the spread of coronavirus. What we have learned changes everything. The new strain of virus is passed on easier from person to person – putting more residents at risk of contracting the virus.

Our Municipality is facing a difficult situation. We all need to be cautious and abide by the government advice for restrictions. We must now all act as if everyone we come in contact with has the virus and do everything we can to limit our exposure to it. By taking hands, face, space advice seriously, irrespective of location, and isolating when required we can become part of the solution.”

COVID-19 is REAL. Getting informed to better protect yourself is possible. Stay safe, protect others.
