WPFD 2020: WORD TO THE MEDIA AND PRIVATE PRESS.

by Barrister Nico Halle Mindful of the pivotal role the media plays in the socio- economic and political life of each Nation; Mindful of the objective, peaceful, professional and patriotic manner in which most media organs have been handling the Anglophone crisis since more than three years albeit with some sporadic flaws; Mindful of the unfortunate arrival and rapid spread of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic since a few months back with attendant devastating consequences on human life; Considering that the above challenges only come to compound an already fragile economy that badly needs revamping. Whereas the Media has been performing it indispensable role under very excruciating conditions owing to want of adequate resources to function; The National Patron and defender of the Role of an Unfettered Press in Cameroon that I am since more than three decades now, has these few words for the media on the occasion of this great World Press Freedom Day celebration: Like the former venerated

WPFD 2020 JOURNALISM WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR

By Rose Obah There could have been no timely theme for the celebration of this year's World Press Freedom Day than, " Journalism without fear or favour." The right of journalists to discharge their duties under safe conditions, without being harassed, attacked, intimidated, beaten and imprisoned, cannot be over emphasized. Many have also been murdered, illegally arrested while some currently under arbitrary detention. The safety of journalists is an uphill challenge in today's world. Attacks on media professionals are often perpetrated by organised crime groups, militia, security personnel and even local police, making journalists to feature among one of the most vulnerable in society. I speak from experience as i have come face to face with physical and moral threats and intimidation for exercising my fundamental right to freedom of expression especially in the line of duty. In spite of all these, dear colleagues, let us continue to: - To Expose and excoriate evil i

BREAK THE SILENCE:SPEAK UP IF YOU ARE A VICTIM OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE. EPISOD 2

By Pechuqui Laurata Reading and scrolling down news feed on my facebook account, there was a write up on parenting that caught my attention for a while. It was about parenting with lots of attributes to the girl child. The two powerful points were on monitoring your child carefully and be his or her best friend and don't allow anyone call your daughter "my wife". Honestly i agree with the person who did the write up 100%. True because Most of them are the perpetrators of violence. You may think they are just joking but you can't easily detect what their intentions are. If your daughter complains about a certain person, stop referring to that person as kind and would never do such things. Just with that type of behavior or attitude of yours, when something happens she won't utter a word. Let's make our children our best friends. Most perpetrators of Gender Based Violence especially rape are usually closed to the victim and family. There is this
