WUM COUNCIL GETS A NEW SECRETARY GENERAL

The administrator, trained and tested fit with enough skills.

The good news came rumbling like a tornado in the heart of the dry season. The joy, merry making and fanfare was grandiose. Celebrations and congratulatory messages filled the air. The dream of becoming an administrator after training has finally come to fruition. Ekom Ivorsmith Akwo, is the new Secretary General of Wum Council.

Ekom Ivorsmith Akwo born on November 12, 1986 is a council administrator who served as Chief of Bureau General Affairs from 12 July 2018 to 17 July 2020. Previously he had had a rich experience in council jobs as he moved from Finance clerk to  sanitary inspector, passing through civil status Secretary, communal correspondent for HIV/AIDS and park attendant, between 2001 to 2016, when he gained admission into CEFAM. He has been serving the Wum Council since July 4th 2001.

Ekom Ivorsmith Akwo was born in Kesu-[Wum], in Wum Subdivision located in Menchum Division of the North-West Region of Cameroon. After his recruitment into the Wum Council in July 2001 as a Finance Clerk, he became the Civil Status Secretary in 2003. He was promoted Communal Correspondent for HIV/AIDS Wum Central in 2007, park attendant in 2013 and Sanitary Inspector from 2014 to 2016.

Ekom Ivorsmith Akwo's time at CEFAM was dedicated to acquiring more administrative skills for his council and other councils (Regional and Local Authorities) he shall be called to serve. (The Administrator, trained and tested fit with enough skills as he usually says.)

He remained Chief of Bureau General Affairs till he was appointed as Secretary-General of the Wum Council on July 17, 2020. 

Minister George Elanga Obam of the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development appointed Ekom Ivorsmith Akwo as Secretary General of the Wum Council on July 17, 2020, replacing Meh Jonathan Zam.

Breaking the Cycle: Confronting Gender-Based Violence and Drug Abuse in Bamenda

In a bid to tackle the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and drug abuse, the "Adjust for Me" project, implemented by Common Action for Gender Development (COMAGEND), has been making strides in the Ntarikon 2 community, Bamenda. The project, which aims to raise awareness and educate the community on the causes, consequences, and prevention of GBV and drug abuse, has been well-received by community members. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists

This statement was  made by Fonyuy Kiven Frankline, the information officer at the United Nations for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, on December 27 2019 at Ntamulung church center hall as he trained peace journalists in Bamenda on humanitarian reporting and Security/safety of journalists. Organized by the Cameroon community media Network CCMN Northwest chapter, mr Funyuy Kiven trained the journalists present,  on the importance of always taking into consideration, your safety and security, before embarking on any mission.
