WUM COUNCIL UNITY AND PEACE TOURNAMENT; YOUNG STARS CROWNED CHAMPIONS.


Young Stars FC is this years winner of the Wum Council Unity and Peace tournament after post match penalties win over Yakamata FC at the finals played at the Wum Municipal Stadium on Sunday December 20, 2020 under the watchful eyes of the SDO for Menchum, Abdoullahi Aliou.

Young Stars FC went home with the first prize of 300,000 frs, while Yakamata took home 200,000 frs, with third 3rd and 4th teams receiving 75,000 frs and 50,000 frs respectively, while the 5th,6th,7th and 8th bagged home 25,000 frs each. There were also individual prizes for the best player (Afuh Reginard), best goalkeeper (Muhammadu Ibrahim), highest goal scorer (Muhammadu Mansur with 10 goals) among many others.


Dighambong Anthony, Mayor of Wum Council, who doubles as Senior Vice President of the United Cities and Councils of Cameroon, reminded the youths of his municipality that the aim of the competition is to bring youths together to celebrate the end of year festivities, cultivate the habit of tolerance, build peace and social cohesion and above all, promote home based talents. He called on the elites of Menchum to help revive Menchum Eagles that was once the pride of the people of Menchum. He advised the winner and losers to show a spirit of fair play because in any competition, there are always winners and loser. He hoped such a spirit will be the watch words for the next edition that comes up in 2021.


The Wum Council Unity and peace Tournament is in its 4th edition. A total of 8 teams participated in this years competition with all of them qualifying for the quarter finals, played in two legs. This years competition started on October 8, 2020.


The Wum Council Unity and peace Tournament has become a huge attraction for the municipality with youths, women and men alike taking keen interest in the competition and following the progress of their teams piously. Each game day, fans of the various teams poured into the Wum Municipal Stadium, attracting petit traders, commercial bike riders and others associated businesses to flourish, an in a small way stimulating the economy.

Traditional Leaders Urge Government to Address Drug Abuse in Ntarikon 2 Community

On November 20, 2024, community spokespeople from the Adjust for Me project engaged religious and traditional leaders in an open discussion during a door-to-door sensitization campaign in Ntarikon 2. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the growing concerns of drug abuse and gender-based violence (GBV) within the community. Through this dialogue, the project sought to educate both youths and religious leaders on the dangers of substance abuse and to address how gender-based violence can be reduced in both the church and local communities. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists

This statement was  made by Fonyuy Kiven Frankline, the information officer at the United Nations for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, on December 27 2019 at Ntamulung church center hall as he trained peace journalists in Bamenda on humanitarian reporting and Security/safety of journalists.
