The call was made during the celebration of the 38 th  International Women Day, with a focus on inclusive digital world, innovation and technologies for gender equality, which highlights the role of innovative technologies in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and development needs of women and girls.  Despite the fact that women can be innovators and help transform the health of all people on the continent, much still needs to be done in order to close the digital gender divide, which mainly affects vulnerable women and girls, especially those in rural and remote areas with low levels of education and low socio-economic status.
