Nji Nelson Chefor President ACADSUBA

OJ SLIM MEDIA: You are the President of ACADSUBA and you are organising a writing contest. May we know the raison d'être of the contest?

NJI NELSON CHEFOR: The raison d'être of this writing contest is first to test the writing skills of students of the department of communication and development studies. You know we want the student to compete in writing by showing what they have learned in school. It has never happened before in this department and we are glad to do it this academic year.

O.S.M: Can you tell us who are those eligible for the contest? Or is it just opened to everyone?

N.N.C: The contest is opened to all students of the department of Communication and Development Studies of The University of Bamenda.

O.S.M: Any remuneration for the winners?

N.N.C: For this first edition, we have prizes. For each category, the winner takes home 50.000frs, 30.000frs for second position and 20.000frs for 3rd position.

O.SM: For how long has this contest been existing or is it the maiden edition?

N.N.C: It is the maiden edition and we are determined to pull through despite the huddle of the Covid-19. We plan to extend the deadline in the days ahead since we can't go back to school now.

Traditional Leaders Urge Government to Address Drug Abuse in Ntarikon 2 Community

On November 20, 2024, community spokespeople from the Adjust for Me project engaged religious and traditional leaders in an open discussion during a door-to-door sensitization campaign in Ntarikon 2. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the growing concerns of drug abuse and gender-based violence (GBV) within the community. Through this dialogue, the project sought to educate both youths and religious leaders on the dangers of substance abuse and to address how gender-based violence can be reduced in both the church and local communities. Many religious leaders expressed that while some progress has been made, the increasing prevalence of drug abuse among young people remains a pressing concern. "Our youths are falling victim to drugs, and it's taking a toll on their health, well-being, and futures," one community leader remarked. The discussion linked the rise in drug abuse to the economic challenges and ongoing socio-political unrest that have left many youths ...
