Uba: ACADSUBA ORGANISES MAIDEN NEWS WRITING CONTEST.

The Association of Communication And Development Studies of the University of Bamenda, ACADSUBA, is organising a maiden edition of News Writing Contest.

ACADSUBA is sponsoring its maiden writing contest amidst security challenges. This contest is open to students of the Department and students may enter writing in the categories of Print (Newspaper, posters or brochures).
Audio and Photo journalism. All this in one of the following topics;

1:UBa: a melting pot of all cultures.

2:Digitalisation process of Higher Education(Case study UBa)

3: Socio-economic challenges in Bambili

4: Development Communication for inclusive communities.

The instructions have been spelled out to candidates wishing to make entries.
"The story they chose to enter for the contest must not be published elsewhere, for those who chose the audio, it should not be more than three minutes. The print on their part will have to write up to 500 words while Candidates for photo journalism must take the pictures themselves."

The First, second, and third place winners will receive CFA 50.000 frs, CFA 30.000 frs and CFA 20.000 frs.
In order not to catch the shadow and spare the substance, OJ SLIM MEDIA caught up with the President of ACADSUBA, Mr. Nji Nelson Chefor, so as to add flesh to this bony write up.

OJ SLIM MEDIA: You are the President of ACADSUBA and you are organising a writing contest. May we know the raison d'être of the contest?

NJI NELSON CHEFOR: The raison d'être of this writing contest is first to test the writing skills of students of the department of communication and development studies. You know we want the student to compete in writing by showing what they have learned in school. It has never happened before in this department and we are glad to do it this academic year.

O.S.M: Can you tell us who are those eligible for the contest? Or is it just opened to everyone?

N.N.C: The contest is opened to all students of the department of Communication and Development Studies of The University of Bamenda.

O.S.M: Any remuneration for the winners?

N.N.C: For this first edition, we have prizes. For each category, the winner takes home 50.000frs, 30.000frs for second position and 20.000frs for 3rd position.

O.SM: For how long has this contest been existing or is it the maiden edition?

N.N.C: It is the maiden edition and we are determined to pull through despite the huddle of the Covid-19. We plan to extend the deadline in the days ahead since we can't go back to school now.

Breaking the Cycle: Confronting Gender-Based Violence and Drug Abuse in Bamenda

In a bid to tackle the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and drug abuse, the "Adjust for Me" project, implemented by Common Action for Gender Development (COMAGEND), has been making strides in the Ntarikon 2 community, Bamenda. The project, which aims to raise awareness and educate the community on the causes, consequences, and prevention of GBV and drug abuse, has been well-received by community members. Peace journalists in Bamenda aquaint themselves with skills on humanitarian reporting and security/safety of journalists

This statement was  made by Fonyuy Kiven Frankline, the information officer at the United Nations for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, on December 27 2019 at Ntamulung church center hall as he trained peace journalists in Bamenda on humanitarian reporting and Security/safety of journalists.
