Major National Dialogue

Presentation
In his message to the Nation on 10 September 2019, the President of the Republic, Head of State, H.E. Paul BIYA, decided to convene a Major National Dialogue scheduled at the end of September 2019. This Dialogue is designed to, “in line with our Constitution, enable us to seek ways and means of meeting the high aspirations of the people of the North-West and South-West Regions, but also of all the other components of our Nation” in order to resolve the crisis affecting these two regions and having consequences for the whole country.
Date
The Major National Dialogue will be held from 30 September to 4 October 2019, under the coordination of the Prime Minister, Head of Government.

Purpose
- Rally all well-thinking and constructive forces in our country and in the diaspora around values that are dear to us, namely: peace, security, national unity and progress.
- Meet the strong desire of the people of the North-West and South-West Regions to return to a normal life and be able once again to safely carry out their economic and social activities.
- Bilingualism
- Cultural diversity and social cohesion
- Reconstruction and development of conflict-affected areas
- Return of refugees and displaced persons
- Education and judicial system
- Decentralization and local development
- Demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants
- Role of the diaspora in the country’s development…
The Head of State wants the Major National Dialogue to be dialogue that will bring together, without exception, sons and daughters of Cameroon:
- parliamentarians,
- politicians,
- opinion leaders,
- intellectuals,
- economic operators,
- traditional authorities,
- religious authorities,
- members of the diaspora,
- representatives of the Defence and Security Forces,
- representatives of armed groups
- representatives of the victims.
Four hotels have been selected to accommodate the participants:
- Mont-Febe Hotel,
- Hôtel des Députés,
- Djeuga Palace,
- Hôtel La Falaise.
Buses will be provided to transport participants from the various accommodation sites to the Conference Centre for the duration of the Major National Dialogue.
